Civil Technologist/Technician

Engage Engineering is an employee-owned consulting engineering firm based in Peterborough Ontario Canada. We were founded as a small two-person start up in 2014 and have since grown to an energetic and talented team of close to 20 engineers, technologists and support staff. Engage provides civil engineering services to both municipal and private sector clients. We specialize in Municipal Infrastructure, Residential/Commercial/Industrial Land Development, Water Resources and Construction services. We place an emphasis on our high quality of work and customer service by developing and maintaining strong relationships with our clients, approval agencies and project teams.

Who we are looking for – Position Summary

Engage is looking for an eager Civil Technologist/Technician to join our Municipal design team. As part of the Municipal team you will be responsible for the design of municipal infrastructure and land development projects which include roads, sewers, watermain, site grading, site layout, stormwater management systems and site servicing. Clear, concise, and high quality engineering design and drawings is a main focus. But you won’t just be doing design work, you will play a key role in design coordination with the project team, clients and approval agencies; supporting the Construction Services department with Contract Administration and inspection will also be part of the position. A solid background in design and a strong understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D is a requirement. This position is available as a hybrid role which includes the option to work from home up to two days a week.

What you need – Position Requirements

  • A civil engineering degree/diploma or equivalent with minimum 5 years of experience in design of municipal infrastructure in Ontario
  • Experience in the design of municipal infrastructure and residential/site development
  • Fluent understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Experience managing multiple designs concurrently
  • Highly motivated, hardworking and an enthusiastic team player
  • Experience in design coordination with project team, clients and approval agencies
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Member of OACETT an asset
  • Valid driver’s license an asset

Engage is looking for an experienced Senior Civil Technologist/Technician to join our Municipal design team as we grow our firm. As part of the Municipal team you will be responsible for the design of municipal infrastructure and land development projects which include roads, sewers, watermain, site grading, site layout, stormwater management systems and site servicing. Clear, concise, and high quality engineering design and drawings is a main focus. As a Senior Technologist providing mentorship and design guidance to junior staff will also be a large part of the position. The applicant should have an expert level of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D so that they are comfortable mentoring staff in the program. An expert level background in design and design workflow is also an asset. This position is available as a hybrid role which includes the option to work from home up to two days a week.

Construction Services Manager

Who we are looking for – Position Summary

Engage is currently seeking a Construction Services Manager to join our Construction Services team. The Construction Services team provides field services to support the design group including survey, infrastructure condition inspections, construction inspection, and contract administration. In this role you will lead a group of experienced field staff, and coordinate their activities to provide the necessary project support. The Construction Services Manager works as part of the senior leadership team, comprised of the Owners and department managers, and provides overall leadership and direction for the company.

Location

The position is based in the Peterborough office; however, some time will be spent in the field attending construction sites and meetings. The area covered is generally within one (1) hour of Peterborough. The position is eligible to work from home in accordance with company policy.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage Construction Services department including invoicing, budgeting, and staff

  • Prepare annual department budget and revenue goals, track progress against goals

  • Prepare annual workload forecasts based on anticipated construction inspection needs; evaluate staff levels, organize, and hire contract/seasonal staff if required to meet workload

  • Actively manage relationships with existing clients and work to develop new client relationships

  • Create and execute a business development strategy for achieving department revenue targets

  • Implement elements of the Engage Strategic Plan

  • Actively participate in Senior Leadership Team meetings (monthly); participate in one or more Engage Working Groups

    Mentor junior staff in design and construction related skills

  • Complete annual performance reviews and development goal plans for your team

  • Review and approve timesheets, vacation, and personal time requests

  • Monitor resource requirements in your group based on workload; recruit and develop staff with assistance from Administration and our HR consultant

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer or experienced C.E.T. with minimum of 5 years’ experience in both design and construction
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Valid drivers’ license
  • Experience leading and mentoring technical staff
  • Highly motivated, hardworking, and an enthusiastic team player
  • Ability to interact with our clients is an essential core quality. Engage is rooted in providing strong customer service and client relationships, and an important aspect of this position is developing and managing relationships with clients.

Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on experience and education and includes a salary element and a company profit sharing element. The position is entitled to four (4) weeks of vacation/personal/sick time each calendar year, increasing to 5 weeks after 5 years of employment.
